Complete Guide on Sails and Sail Making

Introduction

In late game, Sails are probably the number 1 sought after commodity by players.
A fast set of Sails can save days and even weeks on long journeys, and also make it much easier to escape from player Pirates and NPC Pirates.
A good set of sails can easily fetch between 14 million and 24 million Ducats.
If you equip a ship with 5 sail rigs, that alone can cost up to 100 million!

Require Skills
Industrial Goods Trading (mineral trader)
Fabric Trading (yarn trader)
Sewing (accountant, yarn trader)

Notes of the Materials for Making Sails

Sails require a large quanity of Hemp and Lumber. Simple Sails can be made from Hemp and Lumber alone, but more complex Sails require the addition of Iron.
Hemp can be purchased from the ports of Amsterdam and Algiers , and Lumber is widely available in Northern Europe and West Africa.
Iron can be bought from Amsterdam, London (require investment) and Dublin (require investment), or alternatively refined from Iron Ore available in Algiers and Hamburgusing the Book of Metal Refining (Lubeck, 12,000D after investment).

Notes of Ports for Making Sails

Because Sails require a lot of Industrial Goods, the most common place to make Sails in the port of Oslo.
Usually players stock up on Hemp from Amsterdam and sail to Oslo, where they can combine the Hemp with Lumber to make Sails.
For more complex Sails requiring the addition of Iron, players can import large quantities of Lumber from the North Sea and sail to Amsterdam, where they can purchase large quantities of Hemp.
For players who wish to stay close the Mediterranean, Algiers is a viable option. Players needs to first stock up on large quantities of Lumber from either Northern Europe or West Africa before setting out for Algiers. Algiers has both Iron Ore to make Iron and Hemp which is required to combine with Lumber to make Sails.

Notes on Making Sails

The best Sails are made when there is a 'big success'. Otherwise, usually the crafted sails are regular Sails. Some of the regular Sails can be combined to produce Full Rig Sails using the Book of Full Rig Sails (all six Capital cities, 100,000D after investment),
However Full Rig Sails require level 14 in Sewing.
There is also a small chance to craft Elite Sails. Elite Sails are regular sails with stat boosts. Usually these sails will have additional speed and maximum durability.
If your fabric trading skill is above 5, there is the option of crafting Superior Full Rig Sails, which provide stat boosts, such as speed, and durablity to regular Full Rig Sails. These Sails can sometimes sell for more than 20 million to players.

Notes on Sails that Sell
In late game, the best sails are Elite versions of Superior Full Rig Sails. The recipe for Superior Full Rig Sails is obtained through investing in settlement ports in the Latin America. Because of the difficulty in obtaining the recipe book, players can often make regular Full Rig Sails, using either the Book of Full Rig Sails (all six Capital cities, 100,000D after investment) or the Book of Composite Auxiliary Sails (all six Capital cities, 50,000D after investment).
Players prefer Full Rig Sails because they add significant speed boosts to both vertical and horizontal sailing.
Usually, sail makers would craft their sails in North Europe and sell the sails in the economic Hub of Lisbon/Seville, through either their own Bazaar or through the Company Shop.
